A Birthday Afternoon Drive

Tuesday, October 15, 2019, Happy Birthday Jackie.  Age is a good start for a five card hand of poker, guts to open.  It had rained earlier during the night but now the sun was shining and the temps were just right.  Too wet to ride the bike so Wendy and I took the Stinger and headed out for a nice afternoon drive before meeting ups with some of our Sunday School members for dinner.

I decided to take a backroad/Interstate run to Newport, TN and then take TN 32 over the mountain through Cosby.  The highway is paved to the top of the mountain and then the NC side is gravel for a few miles and then back to asphalt.  Lots of leaves on the wet road, very shady and it wasn't going to dry out soon either.

One of the backroads heading to Dandridge and then over to Newport.

From Newport we took TN 32 over to Cosby, TN

Along this route you will pass Carver's Apple Orchard, store and restaurant.  Good food and great Apple Cider.

Just outside of the main Cosby area starts the pretty mountain drive.
More like driving through a foliage green tunnel.
Mr. A watching the road for little varmints.  His perch position is on top of a pillow in Wendy's lap.  Smart dog.
This is a very winding mountain road so if you have motion sickness, make sure you take your medicine or wear your wrist bands.

The road also has several switchbacks.
As you climb in altitude you start to see more of the trees with leaf color other than green.

Post card pics of some of the Fall foliage in the East TN mountains.

The asphalt road stops in this direction and you are now back on packed wet dirt and gravel.  We were originally heading over to Cataloochie Valley to see the Elks but the road, after 8 miles, started to get a bit rough for the low slung Stinger.  So we found a spot and turned the car around.
We headed back down to the the junction and headed out for I-40.  We would run the interstate back to the 407 exit.
This would allow the wife a 30 min. nap before heading out again to meet up with our friends.
On a day like this it felt good to be out of the house and enjoying some of the Fall nature.  A great Birthday I had and received a number of contacts by family and friends.

Nothing exceptionally exciting but a very pleasant drive if I do say so.  Now to wash the mud off the Stinger.

Enjoy some of what is out there and don't put it off.
